MN Response Network

The MN Response Network is a community-led task force of Somali leaders, allied organizations, and partners across Minnesota united to confront the escalating attacks on the Somali-American community stemming from President Trump’s policies and rhetoric.

This network coordinates rapid response, strengthens existing community infrastructure, and elevates the voices and stories of Somali Minnesotans in a moment of real danger and rising anti-Somali and Islamophobic rhetoric.

Co-led by CAIR-Minnesota and Ayada Leads, the MN Response Network brings together organizations, faith leaders, advocates, unions, legal partners, and volunteers to ensure our community is protected, supported, and empowered.

Our Core Work

Rapid Response & Community Protection

We mobilize quickly to:

  • Respond to ICE activity, federal enforcement, and targeted attacks
  • Share verified information and shut down misinformation
  • Coordinate legal, safety, and crisis response teams
  • Strengthen and expand trusted Somali-led community networks
  • Ensure families have access to immediate support and resources

Shaping the Narrative

We work proactively to:

  • Respond to dangerous anti-Somali and Islamophobic rhetoric
  • Tell our own story with clarity, truth, and dignity
  • Provide media guidance, talking points, and unified messaging
  • Support Somali leaders and organizations speaking publicly
  • Build broad community understanding and solidarity

Big-Picture Vision & Long-Term Solutions

This network recognizes that this moment of crisis is also a moment to think big, reverse harm, and build lasting community power. Our long-term work includes:

  • Developing bold, community-driven ideas that shift the narrative statewide
  • Reversing the impact of federal and political attacks through policy, advocacy, and public education
  • Launching statewide and national initiatives, including establishing a Somali Heritage Month to honor Somali history, culture, and contributions
  • Building sustainable safety and legal readiness systems to protect families long-term
  • Expanding civic engagement and leadership pipelines for youth and community advocates
  • Strengthening partnerships that elevate Somali leadership and expand opportunities for families
  • Transforming this crisis into a foundation for empowerment, resilience, and dignity

This vision goes beyond immediate threats—it is about shaping a future where Somali Minnesotans are respected, protected, and celebrated.
